Dermal Filler
Dermal filler is a gel that is injected into the layers of the face to minimise the appearance of wrinkles, to change the contours of the face or to replace volume that has been lost due to the ageing process.
Dermal filler is made up of hyaluronic acid which is naturally occurring in the matrix of the skin and plays an important role in joints. At Papillon we only use the type of filler that can be completely dissolved with a compound called Hyaluronidase.
There are many different dermal fillers on the market, and we only use fillers that are TGA approved. We encourage our patients to consider dermal filler treatment as an invasive medical procedure with associated risks and it should not be entered into lightly. Social media is awash with multiple examples of filler treatments that look a bit odd. You should ensure that you choose your injector wisely. Many years injecting does not mean that they are a good injector. After all you can drive a car for 30 years and still be a bad driver!
At Papillon, you will have a consultation with a doctor who will assess your face and discuss whether dermal fillers are right for you and what can be achieved. You will be fully informed at the time of consultation and because this procedure is considered a medical procedure you will sign a consent form. Photographs will be taken prior to the filler injections. Your skin will be cleansed fully during the procedure and at times we may need to use a topical anaesthetic agent to make the procedure more comfortable. The dermal fillers used, also contain local anaesthetic that further ensures your comfort. We use a combination of fine needles and cannulas to place the dermal filler under the skin.
You may experience some mild swelling or bruising that may take a few days to settle. This is more likely if we are injecting lips. You will notice a difference immediately after the injections but the final result may not be evident for a few weeks whilst the filler integrates with your own tissues. More photographs will be taken after the treatment and post care will be discussed. A review appointment will be made for you in a few weeks, so that we may see the final result, and to ensure your satisfaction.
The lips are one of the most asked for treatments. High quality filler is used to define the border of the lip and to add volume to the red lip whilst maintaining a natural look.
Cheek filler is another common area that we treat. As we age, we lose volume from the fat pads under the skin and this volume loss often makes us look tired. By placing the right type of filler in the right place in the cheek we can give you an immediate improvement that can rejuvenate your look.
We can also place filler in the chin to rebalance the face or in wrinkles around the mouth area such as the smile lines or the marionette lines to soften your look. Filler can also be placed in the Temples when there is hollowing and also also the jaw line when appropriate.
Men are increasingly having dermal filler. Male and female facial features are different and we ensure that we respect these differences so that we do not feminise the male face. Chin filler and jawline filler are common areas that we inject for men to give them a strong jaw. We may need to do this in stages. Cheeks are another area especially in men over 40 who have an element of volume loss.
At Papillon, we ensure that your results following filler will look natural. As doctors we use our knowledge of anatomy and a keen aesthetic eye to ensure that your treatment is not only safe but that the final result is natural. It looks like you but refreshed. A good rule of thumb is to look at your injector and if they look natural then the chance is, so will you at the end of the treatment.
